Awareness & Activism

Have your life experiences inspired you to be active in something bigger than yourself? Breast cancer, heart disease, global warming and endangered animals may seem like overwhelming problems, but you can make a difference. For years, Blue Mountain has been producing ecards that help people share their passions and love with others using art and words. With this in mind, we created our Awareness and Activism ecard line. While sending ecards will not cure cancer, prevent heart disease, end global warming or save endangered animals, weve seen how receiving the right message at the right time can inspire people.

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer cases in women are estimated to total more than 178,480 and result in more than 40,460 deaths according to the American Cancer Society. Though new methods for breast cancer detection are being developed and breast cancer survival rates are increasing, there is still a need to spread awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research. Right now there is no way to prevent breast cancer, but early detection gives breast cancer patients the best chance for survival. Breast self-exams and yearly mammograms are two of the best methods for early breast cancer detection.

Mammogram reminder! Early detection increases your chance of survival. Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and send this ecard to your friends this October.

Global Warming

Global warming is an average increase in the temperature near the Earths surface. This climate change is caused by the production of greenhouse gas emissions. Human activities that burn fossil fuels like driving cars, burning coal and heating our homes are contributing the most to Earths climate change. The carbon dioxide produced by fossil fuels is what contributes to the greenhouse effect of global warming. Climate change that results in warmer temperatures can cause serious health problems, severe weather and damage the economy. You can do little things to stop global warming including driving a fuel efficient car, taking public transportation, using compact fluorescent (CF) light bulbs and going green by using solar or wind power.

Heart Disease in Women

Heart disease is any disorder that prevents the heart from functioning normally. Most people define heart disease as coronary artery disease, but this is only one of many forms of heart disease. The most common symptom of heart disease, according to WebMD, is angina, which is discomfort (often mistaken for heartburn) in the chest. However, there is not enough awareness around this and other heart disease symptoms. In fact, heart disease is the number one killer of women, but only 13% of women view heart disease as a serious health threat. This shocking statistic demonstrates the need to increase awareness and activism around heart disease prevention and detection. You can start now by making personal heart healthy choices like living a healthy lifestyle and eating heart healthy foods.

You can spread awareness about heart disease and the need to make heart healthy choices with this FREE Happy Womens Heart Health Day ecard.

Endangered Animals

Over 16,119 species of animals and plants are threatened with extinction. The World Conservation Union (IUCN) monitors the state of the worlds endangered species through its Red List of Threatened Species. The endangered species list and the coordination of conversation and sustainability programs facilitate the research necessary to understand the role and impact of endangered species before theyre gone. While sustainability and wildlife conservation has become more socially and politically accepted, awareness around the effect of extinct animals on our ecosystems and economies is still needed. The World Wildlife Fund and local zoos are two organizations that partner with IUCN to implement programs to save endangered animals and educate the public.

Send this Sumatran Tiger and help the World Wildlife Fund increase awareness around the need to protect our endangered species.
